Catherine Lorton is a multidisciplinary artist working across printmaking, painting and sculpture. Drawing on several journeys to Africa, her practice explores women’s social roles and the structures that shape their freedom and identity.

This research gave rise to Botonism, a concept that underpins her practice and reflects on functionality, belonging and individual dependency within a structure. Her painting practice also maintains a close connection with the land and the use of non-toxic materials.
